CE design

"CE" is the abbreviation for the French terms "Conformité Européenne" (European Conformity).

In this case, conformity means compliance with guidelines for the safety of various groups of goods (components, toys, machines, etc.)

The seal was introduced in 1985 and is not a legally valid seal of quality. CE simply means that the manufacturer or distributor of a good is aware of the existing safety guidelines for the product group and that the minimum requirements stipulated therein have been complied with.

This means that the CE marking in no way stands for particularly high-quality goods or products that have been tested in any way or have been proven to be “safe”. Strictly speaking, the CE marking does not even say anything about whether the applicable guidelines for the respective division have actually been complied with, since the use of the mark is not checked.

Independent bodies such as the TÜV or various consumer protection organizations are responsible for checking the actual safety and quality features of products.
